Tavistock Trash Pandas launched their 2025 Ontario Rugby League premiership defense with a resounding 44-10 victory over the Brampton Beavers in Guelph on Sunday.

Following the cancellation of the opening round due to inclement weather, the premiership season officially commenced at the Royal City Goons’ home ground in Guelph, southwest Ontario, with a highly anticipated triple-header. The feature match, a rematch of last year’s Grand Final, saw the Trash Pandas emphatically assert their dominance, signaling their intent to secure consecutive titles.

The Trash Pandas ran in seven tries, with Everett Hawkins collecting a double, and Nathan Roberts kicking five conversions.

In other fixtures, the Brantford Broncos delivered a powerful performance, overwhelming competition newcomers the Durham Dawgs with a 58-6 scoreline. The Toronto City Saints also took to the field, facing the host Royal City Goons in the day’s final match.
