Calgary, Alberta is set to welcome the nation’s top female rugby league talent as it has been officially named the host city for the 2025 Canada Women’s National Championship.
This upcoming tournament marks the fifth edition of the Women’s Nationals and will notably be the third time that three provinces compete for the coveted title. The Women’s National Championship, which originated in 2020 as an East vs. West fixture, expanded to include individual provinces in 2023, reflecting the growing depth and reach of women’s rugby across Canada.
Taking part in the 2025 edition will again be two-times defending champions, the Ontario Ospreys, the formidable British Columbia Storm and the host province’s own Alberta Broncos.
The Ontario Ospreys are once again expected to enter the tournament as strong favourites. Their undefeated streak and further expansion of their squad’s depth, following a highly successful provincial tournament earlier this year, position them as the team to beat.
Beyond the pursuit of national glory, the 2025 Canada Women’s National Championship will carry significant weight as it will serve as a crucial selection tournament for the Canadian Ravens representative team. The Ravens are slated to participate in the Women’s World Cup qualifiers later this year in Brantford, making the performances in Calgary vital for aspiring national team members.
The 2025 Women’s National Championship will run from June 27 – 29.
