The Waterloo Wyverns have emerged victorious in the opening game of the inaugural Ontario Women’s Rugby League Festival, defeating the Toronto Valkyrie 26-6 on Saturday.
The match, held at Waterford High School in Waterloo, saw the Wyverns dominate their opponents, with Canadian Ravens test star and co-captain, Candace Scholten, leading the charge with two tries.
Winger Maddie Hobson joined Scholten with a double, while Jenica Whitla added to the scoreline from the bench.
Co-captain Beth Hofstetter successfully converted three of the five tries to help the home team to a twenty point victory.
For the Toronto Valkyrie, co-captain Tash Naismith scored and converted her own try, accounting for the visitors’ only points.
The Ontario Women’s Rugby League Festival is a two-week Tri-Series featuring Toronto, Waterloo, and the Ottawa Tigers.
