History is set to be made this weekend when the first Ottawa Rugby League team in 13 years takes the field at the Loyalist Sports Dome in Belleville.
The newly formed Ottawa Tigers will be looking to make it third time lucky introducing the code to the Canadian capital, becoming the first to take the field since the Ottawa Rhinos went down to the Hamilton Hammers at Holy Trinity School back in 2012, and looking to go one better than the Ottawa Aces who never made it onto the field.
Running both Men’s and Women’s teams. The Women’s side will have the honor of playing the first game, a friendly against the Ontario Ospreys at Loyalist University. Roberta Drummond and Danielle Vervuurt will be co-captains for the historic match.
The Men’s team will also participate in a series of friendly matches this year, building towards their goal of joining the Ontario Rugby League domestic competition in 2026. This weekend’s games mark a significant step in the Tigers’ journey and a promising new chapter for rugby league in Ottawa.
